The Sisters known as
'Loreto Sisters' belong to the Institute of the Blessed
Virgin Mary (I.B.V.M.) founded in 1604 by Mary Ward, an
English woman who desired to serve the Church
"according to the needs of the times" and who in
her life time specially served young girls and women .
"
Her vision and way of life were carried to Ireland
in the 19th century by Frances Teresa Ball who began the
Irish branch of the IBVM. She in turn was inspired to
spread this way of life around the world and first sent
her Sisters to India in 1842 under the direction of
Delphine Hart.
