A community of religious women,belonging to the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary a multicultural, international Institute founded by an English woman, Mary Ward.She was a woman who desired to be " Wholly God's " and who believed that women like men could serve the Church equally well anywhere in the world and use their giftedness to bring the Gospel of Jesus to those in greatest need.

We, Sisters of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, popularly known as Loreto, have as our inspiration and inheritance the vision of Mary Ward. She is our wisdom figure and prophetic foundress (1585 – 1645).

She believed that “women in time to come will do much.” She remained strong in her belief that we must wait God Almighty’s time, not go before it.

The Sisters known as 'Loreto Sisters' belong to the institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (I.B.V.M.)founded in 1604 by Mary Ward, an English woman who desired to serve the Church "according to the needs of the times" and who in her life time specially served young girls and women.

Her vision and way of life were carried to Ireland in the 19th century by Frances Teresa Ball who began the Irish branch of the IBVM. She in turn was inspired to spread this way of life ....
