The mandate of Jesus expressed in Luke 4: 18 clearly spells His focus on ‘people centred' mission. Over time, this mandate has found expression in diverse ministries... while the poor was our focus, the attitude was often the ' doing for'. With our growing awareness of the need to live radically the Gospel values, we have moved into an experiential mode of missioning... Thus evolved the Social Ministry with a clear focus on those who lack the very basics of life. Standing with those who are oppressed by unjust systems & structures specially women & children.

The Social Ministry by the Province of South Asia has over the years expanded & taken on a formal structure as the Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) The Darjeeling Mary Ward Social Centre (DMWSC) a Development centre in Nepal, Rainbow Homes & a new Ministry in Bangladesh.
